The traditional ruler used to scale a wound is easily cropped from the photo leaving the wound to be enlarged, 10ft by 10ft, and projected onto a court room wall to gain the sympathy of the jury. "Look at what this facility and nurse did to my client", is what the attorneys will tell the jury. They want the wound to seem much larger than it really is. Furthermore, the standard ruler, more often than not, is difficult to see allowing the attorneys to define the size of a wound from the photograph.
